A30 Carland Cross Heritage Interpretation

Towards the completion of Highways England’s major dualling of the remaining single carriageway section of the A30 tourist highway to Cornwall, UPL was appointed by Costain to undertake a feasibility study into possible wayfinding and landscape design infrastructure, associated with heritage assets (barrows), south of the Carland Cross roundabout.

Our design work focused on a viewing platform, archaeological interpretation and wayfinding infrastructure including e-bike parking and charging, shelter from the wind and rest stops at this unique moment in the Cornish landscape, and utilised traditional features such as drystone vegetation-topped Cornish hedges, set against contemporary materials such as Cor-ten steel in this moorland setting.
