Green Trail and Heritage Network

Following a recommendation from our clients on the Whitehill & Bordon Green Loop (in the same local district), UPL was approached by Horndean Parish Council to work up proposals and an initial report into the feasibility of a green trail and heritage network for this East Hampshire village on the edge of Portsmouth.

Our findings suggested that rather than a loop, a network of linked ‘zones’ would be more appropriate, given the physical infrastructure constraints of the settlement. These zones picked out heritage, sculpture and the natural environment, binding these together via bespoke signage and mapping.

Future phases were also imagined that would require additional investment and focused on public realm improvements to the village core, and the rediscovery of the former light railway that used to run from Portsmouth to Horndean and reinterpret this as a theme for play and recreation.
