Our Work

We think that making places which embed a strong social and cultural context is both an art and a science. The natural and organic evolution of communities, evident in historic townscape, has been lost in an industry driven by hard numbers, box ticking, and a planning process lead by opportunism rather than common sense.

In late 2016 we were appointed by Reading Borough Council to consider a design framework for the redevelopment of the significant former civic offices site, plus adjacent retail and police/magistrates courts.

The centre piece is the new Sacred Heart Church to which the three individual residential buildings respond by forming a protective outer skin to the site, stepping down in height towards the Church and the Town Park.

We like to feel that smart growth, means ticking all the boxes with regard to putting development in the right place.
Thame Sustainable Urban Extension
The site concept focuses upon the creation of three main landscaped edges repairing the relationship of the town to the surrounding countryside, which has been degraded by poor quality twentieth century ring-road development.

This area of the County is home to some of the most picturesque (and expensive) villages in the UK.
Hammonds Farm Design Advice
In our capacity as design mentors and design reviewers, we have been appointed by Grosvenor to act as design ‘shadow’ to an established team, as part of joint venture discussions on the promotion of Hammonds Farm, on land east of Chelmsford.
